What do I need to set up a club? Well one of things I feel is fundamental is having a coach. Having had a quick chat with the Regional Triathlon Development Manager, it became apparent that triathlon coaches across north east Derbyshire and, indeed west Nottinghamshire were rarer than kangaroo droppings! Well it is about time I did a coaching award, it's years since I have done anything like that so I went to British Triathlon’s website to find out more. Very helpful it was, giving me lots of details about the coaching awards, the pathways etc and introduced me to the fee of £300 for the Level 1 and £470 for the Level 2.
The minimum amount it is going to cost me, the volunteer, to set up a club with a coach was going to be £770 as I will need to be Level 2 to really be delivering unsupervised. Wow! That price doesn’t even cover my time…not that I want to charge for it but if I did it would probably be in the region of £1500 and then there is the equipment and the facility hire. Is this all too much?
